Sony Pictures Television announced the launch of AXN Sci-Fi in Italy through an agreement reached with Sky Italia. The channel goes on the air on November 8, subject to regulatory clearances.
AXN Sci-Fi brings together, for the first time in Italy, a wide range of sci-fi and fantasy genre-based entertainment, targeting young adults 24 to 45. The announcement was made by Kate Marsh, senior vice president of Broadcast and Channel Development, SPT.
Commenting, Marsh said: “We are delighted to add another one of our popular channel brands to the Sky platform in Italy. The channel will be a unique destination for high quality sci-fi and fantasy programming. The addition of AXN Sci-Fi to our channels’ line-up in Italy is an important development for our business in this strategically important market.”
At launch, viewers will have the chance to see series including The 4400 and Dead Like Me and territory premieres of new seasons of Eureka and Ghost Hunters along with core sci-fi series like Star Trek Next Generation and SG-1.
AXN Sci-Fi is SPT’s second network in Italy. It joins core brand, action entertainment channel AXN, which comes in HD, in SD and in a +1 time-shifted service on the Sky platform.
